RAF BRIZE NORTON LOCAL ENGAGEMENT EVENINGÂ
Cllr Andy Lanham, chair of the parish council, attended the RAF Brize Norton local community working group meeting yesterday evening, below is the feedback from the meeting.
The meeting was mainly focused on the upcoming replacement of the aircraft operating surfaces, (AOS).
It is being called the AOS to avoid any confusion surrounding the belief that only the runway is to be resurfaced.
It is the runway, taxiways and aircraft parking bays. A lot more than just the runway. They will also be replacing some of the ground lighting and the remainder of the high level lighting, all with LEDs.
The construction work is due to start around March 2026 and finish around September 2027.
The work is unlikely to have a huge impact on Black Bourton. There will be a noise impact in that the noises coming from RAF Brize Norton will change. Aircraft noise will reduce, although flying around the base will continue.
The crash gate at the end of Burford is not going to be used for access, the majority of works vehicles will be using the North side for access, Brittania gate and another newly made gate. HGVs should not be coming through Black Bourton.
The main impact for Black Bourton will likely be in the form of noise. This might only be an issue when the work is being carried out adjacent to the village. I have asked that we be informed when, and for how long, this will be the case so that we are at least aware in advance.
We have been promised further updates as we approach the start date, so watch this space.
