If you didn’t come to the harvest festival last Sunday you missed a treat! Our guest minister, Gary Long who is the Youth Leader at St John’s in Carterton brought some children and their parents along to help us join in the fun and games. The whole congregation took part in a series of action songs led very ably by Gary (and augmented by David on the organ) and his team who had us all jumping up and down and turning circles in the pews with of course our lovely harvest hymns at the beginning and end. We all wrote a short prayer on pieces of paper which were then randomly handed round for people to read if they wished and then we placed our harvest gifts by the chancel step on the most wonderful display of straw bales and woodland animals. Everybody was very generous. So not your ordinary style of harvest festival but terrific fun nonetheless. All the food items donated have gone to the Besom food bank who help local families with food parcels – I am told their food requests rose beyond anything Besom have ever experienced due to the problems of the last eighteen months – so it’s good that we have been able to contribute.

Our church was decorated for the occasion by our amazing team of flower ladies and if you can spare the time in the next few days, do go into the church to look and take your camera with you. It will be open every day now from 9.30a.m. to dusk. The flower displays are a sight to behold with rich autumn colours and berries and nuts to complement, making our lovely church look even more beautiful than usual. We are incredibly fortunate to have such talent in our midst and the PCC extend our appreciation and thanks to all those who worked so hard to achieve such a wonderful outcome – and thanks also to the intrepid volunteer who changed the light bulbs!
Our Rev Tess’s final service will be on Sunday November 7th at 10:00am – do join us for a fond farewell and read her parting letter to us all.
The next big service will be on 14th November at 10.50 a.m. when we will welcome the airmen and airwomen from RAF Brize Norton to the special service of Remembrance at the War Memorial and afterwards in the church. We hope you can all join us.
