I was delighted to be invited to a Service for the Consecration of Burial Ground which took place last week in the cemetery at the back of the church. There was a plot of land which has remained unconsecrated since the land was acquired but which is needed now that the cemetery is reaching maximum capacity. The Bishop of Dorchester, the Rt. Revd. Gavin Collins accompanied by Rev Drew Tweedy and Rev Katie Welborn gathered with a number of staff and councillors from Carterton Town Council to perform the ceremony. The Mayor of Carterton Nick Leverton explained that the cemetery is likely to be full within another couple of years and as yet an alternative site in Carterton has not been found.
At our next church service on 9th October, we will be celebrating Harvest Festival and hope that we will see some of our younger families there for this traditional autumn celebration. If you can donate dried or tinned food for the service, please either leave it in the church porch by the day before or contact me or any member of the PCC if you would like us to collect. We will be donating all items to the local foodbank, Besom.

On Saturday 8th October St John’s in Carterton is holding their Children’s Harvest Craft Show and Flower Festival, which you are all invited to participate in. Set-up 10:00 to noon. Open 13:00-17:00. For more information use the contact form. If you can, drop in and see the displays during the afternoon as I am sure they will be worth a visit.
Finally, a reminder to all the clever crafters in the village to get busy in preparation for our bazaar to be held on 19th November in St Mary’s. The money raised from this event will go towards our much-needed toilet and kitchen so if you can contribute in any way then get in touch with Wendy or Eileen who will be pleased to hear from you.
