Church News November/December

I am pleased to say our Christmas Bazaar last Saturday raised over £700, so well done to all those who contributed or helped to make it a success. Although the weather was against us we still saw a good number of fresh faces enjoying a morning coffee and a chat with friends and acquaintances. It’s been a feature of village life here since Andrew Peggy lived in Moat Cottage and we all crowded into his barn for a bring and buy sale and hot drinks.

If you’ve ventured up the church path over the last week you will have seen the notices on the porch door announcing the cancellation of the next two services, Evensong on 26th Nov and Communion on 10th Dec. Alternative services at St Britius are HC on 26th Nov 9.15 a.m. or 10.30 at St John’s at 10.30 and the same again for the 10th Dec. Please ask if you would like a lift. It is proving very difficult to keep up with the builders dust and get the church properly cleaned for each event, so it was decided to cancel everything until the concert on the 15th Dec. A little bird tells me that the choir who are going to sing to us are very good so it is an event not to be missed.

Following that on 23rd Dec we will have Santa’s Grotto at 5 p.m. with our usual carol service afterwards at 6 p.m. This is very much a time for the children and Gary will be leading the service with our youngsters in mind so come along and sing your favourite carols and enjoy a glass of mulled wine as well.

Our last service of the year is Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. It won’t quite be midnight as we feel a 10 p.m. start is more appropriate (especially for us older peeps) so we hope you can join us for this lovely Christian service which marks the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

And to all in our small village community, Lawrence and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
