Church News June/July

It’s a feature of our weather here in Great Britain that one minute we can be shivering under overcast skies and the next minute we are baking in the heat. The compensation for the endless rain we had in the spring is that our hedgerows and garden borders are as green and colourful as they have ever been. The churchyard throughout ‘no mow May’ was a sight to behold and the bees and pollinators were making the most of the abundance of blossoms. The grass is now cut and we return to the pleasure of seeing our well tended and tidy churchyard basking in the June sunshine.

Our communion service on the 14th July will be the last time Rev Drew officiates as our Rector before passing us into the very capable hands of Rev Barry with whom I hope you are by now acquainted. Our evensong service on 28th July has been cancelled as there will be a benefice service in St John’s at 10.30 a.m. where we all gather for Drew’s last service in the benefice before his retirement and that of Rev Ian too. We mustn’t forget that as we lose Rev Drew and Rev Ian, we also lose their lovely wives, Billie and Carol who as lay readers have contributed so much to the work of all three parishes. After the service there will be a farewell lunch served in the hall for us all to say our goodbyes. We wish them well in their retirement and hope there are many more exciting things in store for them in the future.
