Church News – January/February

After all the festive cheer of last month’s news, January has rolled in with cold weather, dreary days and many people stricken with colds and ‘flu. It seems to be our darkest time of the year not helped by the funerals taking place in the church at the moment.

But let’s not forget Burn’s Night at St John’s in Carterton taking place this coming Saturday which will give everyone a chance to let their hair down and enjoy the company of our friends in the benefice. For those who like to dance, St John’s are holding a barn dance on 4th March so if you feel energetic, I have plenty of tickets for that event so do get in touch.

Once again the churchyard is breaking out into bloom with aconites just inside the gate and the snowdrops opening their dainty heads under the trees near the cemetery wall. It’s such a welcome sight in the darker days of winter and a reminder of better things to come.  My job of collecting up the Christmas wreaths from the graves at the end of the month is less of a task with such a carpet of flowers to work amongst.

No more news this month but next time we will be looking forward to Lent and Holy Week with details of things happening in church.
