Church News January/February

I was sorry to miss the BBVA AGM this week when a good number of village residents turned up to hear the good work of this excellent  group of people who make such a difference to the social side of life in our village. And I gather the bubbly flowed and the new kitchen had it’s first airing to the delight of all of us after the months of disruption. Huge thanks go to Lawrence for all the work he has put into this from the original idea back in 2022. The preparation and meetings and paperwork involved in achieving the end result is mind boggling and I hope he will now give himself a very well earned pat on the back.  It also goes without saying that the PCC are extremely grateful for the money that the BBVA donated to this project from their profits this year and I must also mention the generosity of individuals from the benefice who have supported our project. Do take a look at the background to the project and the before-and-after photos.

Easter is early this year so Lent starts in the middle of February kicking off in St Britius with their very popular Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday on 13th. There is a choice between savoury and sweet pancakes (which are delicious I have to say) so let me know if you would like to come along so I can organise lifts.

Once again during Lent Jeremy will be saying Compline in church every Weds at 5.30, which will follow our bible study group at 4.30. These short prayer sessions will carry on until Weds 20th March when we will be looking forward to Holy Week. More of that in the next newsletter but we are of course now able to hold our normal services as usual, Holy Communion on Feb 11th and Evensong on Feb 25th.
