Church News – August/September

Isn’t it amazing how quickly the Bank Holidays come round and here we are again heading for the last one until Christmas. This weekend is special for so many people as they try and get a few days away or spend time with family before the children go back to school. I mentioned last month that Viv Butler and his family will be bringing little Conrad to church for baptism this Sunday so we wish them all a joyous weekend as they celebrate this special event in Conrad’s life.

We also have a shortened version of evensong at 6 p.m. this Sunday (27th) which will be led by Jeremy with Simon playing the organ for us.

Don’t forget to support the Ride and Stride event on 9th September and if you have an hour to spare and would be willing to sit in the church porch to welcome the riders and striders do get directly in touch with Nikki Holmes to volunteer (or use the Contact Form).

With the Fete imminent, Judy and I will be running the plants and produce table, so may I ask for donations of plants, vegetables, fruit or preserves if you have any to spare. I am happy to collect or you can drop them off at either 3 or 8 Church Close. The BBVA are very generous in their support of  church funds so we want to do the very best we can next Sunday.

Lastly it is with much sadness that I have to announce that John Waltham  passed away in the first week of August. He will be buried in our churchyard alongside his wife June on 5th September with a service in the church at 11a.m. For those who may not be familiar with John, he and his wife were serving members of our PCC for many years, way back when Harold Jenkinson, Geoff Tidsall and Marjorie Worth were on the committee. He has been a staunch supporter of St Mary’s ever since and has done a fine job of being our independent auditor, making sure all our accounts were up to scratch. We send our condolences to his family and pray that he may now rest in peace.

The next PCC meeting is on Tuesday September 12th at 7pm in the church.
