Church News April/May

After six weeks of a bare church during Lent, we were finally able to decorate the church on Easter Saturday ready for the service on Easter Day. The flower team did an amazing job arranging flowers in every nook and cranny so when you entered the church you could see and smell the incredible displays in celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. I hope you managed to see them – they were beautiful works of art. The photographs below don’t do them justice! We are also having a Flower Festival over two days on 28th and 29th June where you will be able to come and feast your eyes and have a cup of tea and a piece of cake but more details of that in next month’s newsletter.

On Easter Saturday great fun was had by all who attended the church Easter activity event. Gary Long came over from St John’s and led games and the retelling of the Easter story before the hunt for eggs ensued in the park.

The children raced around the recreation ground to complete their quiz and claim their chocolate eggs.

May is a busy month for the church starting with the local council elections on the 5th.  Our annual meeting (APCM) will be held on Tuesday 17th May at 7.00pm in St Mary’s. Everyone  is welcome.

On Thursday 19th May the BBVA will be holding the first of their popular concerts this season which we all enjoy very much and now the pews have been removed at the back of the church there is plenty of room for dancing! St John’s will be holding a Songs of Praise for the Jubilee celebrations on Sunday 5th June at 6.00pm.

We have decided not to go ahead with our planned communion service in St Mary’s on a Wednesday morning due to lack of support but it’s worth mentioning that St Britius hold a midweek communion at 7 p.m. on a Wednesday evening should anyone wish to attend. However we will be continuing with our popular bible study group and compline at 5.00pm on a Wednesday once Jeremy is back from holiday. This lasts about 45 minutes and seems a really nice end to the day. Get in touch if you want to know more – everybody is welcome young and old.
