Church News April/May

The PCC held its APCM last week with a couple of changes to the committee so if you go to the ‘Our Church’ page on our website the new line up will be available for you to see.

Sadly we are losing our curate Katie at the end of May and waving her and her husband Miles off to North Devon where Miles will be taking on the job of Rector to 8 parishes. All of us in the benefice will miss her and her valuable input into all areas of our church lives since she was ordained nearly a year ago. She took her first Eucharist service in St Mary’s and she will take her last service for the benefice here at Evensong on Sunday 26th May so please come along and say goodbye if you can. We wish them both well in their exciting new venture.

This Saturday is the second meeting of the Death Cafe at St John’s Hall with the subject matter being the legal side of things. The feedback from the first meeting was very good with many people saying how much they had learnt from Angela, who represented Taylor’s Funeral Director. So we hope to be able to listen to a Registrar and a solicitor this week and of course ask questions over a coffee and home made cakes. The atmosphere is very relaxed – no formalities at all – so feel free to join in starting at 10 a.m. I shall be going so will have room for 2 people in my car if you prefer to have some company. As a reminder because the next newsletter won’t be available till the end of the month, the May session will be on Saturday 18th May.

Coming up next month is the wedding of Lawrence’s daughter Alex and her fiancee Jack. What a lovely month to get married in when all the blossoms are out and the weather is warm. We hope they have a wonderful day and we send them all our very best wishes for their future lives together.
