Back at the beginning of March, on Shrove Tuesday Jane and I attended the Pancake Supper hosted by St Britius Church in Brize Norton. This was an excellent event and we were amazed at the efficiency of the team at producing enormous pancakes with delicious fillings. St Britius is a similar size to St Mary’s so tables were put at the back to sit at and we helped ourselves to pancakes, sweet or savoury according to taste. It was a very happy occasion and we look forward to joining other events at our sister churches over the coming months. To keep in touch with what’s happening at St John’s do read their newsletter: April 2022 Newsletter From St Johns Church.
It won’t be long before Easter is with us and in the meantime we are enjoying our bible study sessions in the church on Wednesdays. We have been very lucky so far to have the company of Ron Lloyd who, it seems to me, is a walking encyclopedia as far as the bible is concerned. This makes our discussions very interesting and enlightening and I hope he can continue to join us until we reach Good Friday.
Talking of which, Jeremy will be reading the whole of the Passion Story from St Matthews Gospel interspersed with appropriate extracts from Bach’s St Matthews Passion which will help us to meditate on the reading. It starts at 2.p.m. and lasts about an hour but you can come and go as you wish during that period. Join him in the church on Good Friday 2 p.m.
You will have already seen the notice about our special event for the children on Easter Saturday 16th April in last month’s newsletter but it’s worth mentioning again so you can factor it into your weekend plans. The Easter celebration led by Gary, starts at 2.30 p.m. at the church with a story and songs and will then move to the park for a ‘quiz in the park’ not forgetting the Easter eggs! It should all take about an hour so do bring your families and join in the fun.
We have three services this month so keep an eye on the website for details but of course I will send my usual email as a reminder a few days before each one.
