Church News February/March

You will have noticed as you walk through the churchyard the amazing sight of snowdrops. These little beauties have been flowering since the early days of January along with some small patches of celandines here and there. Always a welcome sign in the dark days of winter of life returning in the spring and I know this walk through to the cemetery and the footpaths beyond is very much favoured by our local walkers. If you take your dog with you please remember to pick up after them as it is not very pleasant for people attending graves to find dog mess to contend with. Nor is it fair on the volunteers who keep the churchyard looking so nice to have to clear up dog mess before they can start work. Please be considerate of others.

Now we are heading towards March, we move into the Lent period in the church calendar. Lent is a period of preparation for Easter and is an imitation of Jesus fasting in the wilderness before he began his public ministry. On Shrove Tuesday we traditionally feast on pancakes before giving up a favourite food for the 40 days that follow up to Holy Week and Easter. We acknowledge this time by holding our popular bible studies in church every Wednesday starting on Ash Wednesday 1st March at 5 p.m. Jeremy will be helping us to understand passages in the bible followed by prayers before we leave. Do come along and try it – all are welcome!
