BBVA News October/November

The 8th October was the day set for the Annual Apple Juicing, but it was already clear in September that there was going to be a shortage of the necessary fruit, apples, pears, quince and medlars, compared to the same time last year.  Fortunately the village rallied round and offered plenty of apples, to save the day.

We were blessed again with the weather, which resulted in a good turnout of villagers and friends and we were once again pleased to welcome our local MP Robert Courts and family to another of our village events.  He will soon have earned Honorary BB status !

The marquee and bouncy castle were erected and the BBVA juicing apparatus installed and apples arrived as did the 50 to 60 villagers with their picnics and their children and we all enjoyed sampling the fantastic BBQ,  volunteer cheffed by Becca and David … many many thanks B & D.

James Coxon the BBVA Chairman gave a short welcome speech and wished the PCC well with it’s building (loo and kitchen) project in St Mary’s .

The end result was that about 120 litres of fresh juice was squeezed and a good amount consumed on the day and plenty taken home for cider making or to drink fresh and the event continued well into the late afternoon.

The BBVA will be planting the Community Orchard in November in the prepared area at the far end of the play park.  It is hoped that in the years to come the orchard will help solve the lack of apples in years when they are scarce.

And don’t forget our Quiz Night coming up on Friday 17th November at 7pm in The Vines. A supper chilli con carne supper (vegetarian alternative available) will be served. Maximum team size is 6 and bookings are on a first-com-first served basis. Please email bbvacommittee@gmail.com with total team numbers and dietary requirements. No deposit is required. Tickets are £15 per person, payable on the night (cash or card). If you’re not in a team and you want to attend, we will try to join individuals into teams on the night where numbers/spaces allow.

With Christmas only 8 weeks away, we are planning a trip to Swindon Wyvern Threatre on Sat 9th Dec to see Snow White! The BBVA will be providing free coach transport for everyone, leaving from the village at 6pm, plus all children will receive free tickets for the performance! For adults tickets are £26. If you are interested in joining please email bbvacommittee@gmail.com with numbers of adults and children you wish to book.

This will be the last panto for our very own Black Bourtonian David Ashley, so we expect the event to be popular.

Reserve early to avoid disappointment!
